Card payments move through Lemma in two opposite directions:
  • Issued debit cards spend money. Your platform issues a card against one of the entity’s bank accounts, and every purchase draws that balance down.
  • Acquiring collects money. Lemma charges a payer’s credit card and deposits the proceeds into the entity’s account.
Both appear in List transactions, told apart by source.category.

Issued debit cards

Cards your platform issues and controls. See Lifecycle of a Lemma card. Endpoints:
  • Create card issues a card with its controls.
  • Get card returns a card and the controls enforced on it.
  • Get a card iframe shows the card number, CVV, and expiration date to the cardholder without those details passing through your servers.
  • Update card freezes or unfreezes a card, or changes its controls.
  • Cancel a card ends a card permanently.
Transaction sources. All but the three dispute categories carry the card’s card_id:
  • card_authorization: a purchase approved but not yet settled.
  • card_settlement: a purchase that settled.
  • card_financial: a purchase authorized and settled in one step, such as an ATM withdrawal.
  • card_refund: a merchant’s refund to the card.
  • card_decline: a purchase that was declined.
  • card_dispute_financial: money moved while a dispute is open, such as a provisional credit.
  • card_dispute_acceptance: a dispute decided in the entity’s favor.
  • card_dispute_loss: a dispute decided against the entity.

Acquiring

Acquiring is how an entity collects revenue by card: Lemma charges a payer’s credit card on the entity’s behalf and deposits the proceeds into the entity’s bank account. It is unrelated to the debit cards your platform issues, which spend from an account rather than pay into it. Endpoints: Transaction sources:
  • acquiring_card_payment: a card payment Lemma collected.
  • acquiring_card_payment_fee: the processing fee for a card payment.
  • acquiring_refund: a refund to the payer.
  • acquiring_refund_fee: the processor’s fee for a refund.
  • acquiring_chargeback: a payment the cardholder disputed and took back.
  • acquiring_chargeback_fee: the processor’s fee for a chargeback.
  • acquiring_chargeback_reversal: a chargeback reversed, returning the payment.
